Last month Andover Printing processed more national orders than in any previous month of the company’s 25 years (plus) history!
We already regularly sell in Andover, Winchester and other surrounding Hampshire cities, towns and villages but in October we saw a surge in non-local orders. We have processed orders for new customers as far a field as Scotland, the Wirral, Manchester and Cornwall but mainly the Home Counties with orders coming in from Kent, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Oxfordshire plus 8 ‘new customer’ orders from London!
So what could be the reason for this sudden upsurge in non-local orders, and can a small company really compete with the big boys for national, or even international business? It’s great if your unique selling point is the ‘personal touch’ but not much good if no one outside your local area knows about you!
Unless you’ve got a vast advertising budget it can be difficult to get your name out there and be the 1st choice for prospective customers, especially if a company selling the same product as yours has a tv ad appearing in the middle of Downton Abbey!
However we’ve found a couple of ways to muscle in which appear to be working – and best of all it hasn’t cost us a penny!
We sell some items online, and have found offering discount voucher codes are a great incentive to get people to part with their hard-earned cash. We uploaded them to vouchercodes.co.uk and let the 7.7 million people who have signed up receive their monthly newsletter find them!
Writing regular blogs and posting them on our website has also been a great way to rank higher on search engines. Any updated content works favourably with the likes of Google and should ensure better page ranking when people search our keywords no matter where they are, so we try to include our keywords in our blogs and blog regularly!
